Following on from the 2007 conference in New York, this session will consider London's status in the world arena not just in terms of real estate but also in the realms of business, finance, culture and technology.

The threat to London of the emergence of new world cities in developing countries will be examined as well as looking at London in comparison with the existing leading major players.

We are fortunate in having as panellists Sir Simon Milton, who can enlighten us on the GLA's vision for our capital city, Stuart Fraser who will outline the City's policies to ensure that London remains the leading financial centre and Tony Travers who will add his own scholarly analysis.

Plenary 2

During the last 24 months we have battled through unchartered economic territory and weathered the most severe financial storm many of us have seen in our lifetimes. We have seen the boom turn to bust and now we are starting to see signs of recovery.

This session will examine the challenges for office developers that lie ahead in navigating the way through the funding and financial jungle. On the panel we have the Chief Executives of our two leading REITs, both of whom are major London developers, Chris Grigg of British Land and Francis Salway of Land Securities. Our third panellist is the much respected journalist, Simon Jenkins.

Plenary 3

The BCO's core aim is to improve office development in the United Kingdom and in this session we intend to examine what constitutes a successful development and the future of the workplace with its many functions and requirements. With advanced technology and increased 'working from home', what, as occupiers are we seeking to gain from our office enviornments and how, as developers can we facilitate this?

Our three speakers share an experience and knowledge of the future of the workplace and hope to provide a lively debate on matching occupier's requirements with developer's deliverability.

Plenary 4 (11.05-12.30)

Bridget Rosewell Economist and Chairman of Volterra Consulting

CHAIRMAN

Plenary 4

Our final session is all about looking forward. What advances can we expect to see over the next ten years? What new technological inventions will be shaping the way we work and live? Ten years ago the BlackBerry was an inconceivable, futurist gadget; now business would barely function without them. What can we expect to see emerging in the next decade that will have such a profound effect on the way we work? Will work places be the same hubs that they are now or will "hot desking" have become the modus operandi du jour? Will we all, in fact, be wearing silver and travelling around the city on jet packs?!

Our insightful and informed speakers in this session will provide a lively and entertaining conclusion to our plenary timetable and intend to leave everyone with much to think about.
